JALANDHAR: Vomiting and loose motions may or may not be related to gastroentiritis and the cause of death could even be a heart attack.
The death of one Ramesh Giri reported as a gastroenteritis death in a section of the media along with other deaths related to the same disease could have been from other ailments, say experts.
"So far we have not been able to confirm any death reported in the media to have been caused by gastroenteritis," said Dr Kiranjit Kumar, Civil Surgeon.
"We went to Devi Talab Charitable Hospital to investigate the cause of Ramesh Giri''s death which occurred on May 25," the civil surgeon said.
"We found that he was referred there from Bombay Clinic where he had been admitted with various complications. From this Clinic he was referred to Devi Talab Hospital as he again developed complications.There he died on May 25 evening. Primary investigations revealed that he had died of an ''intestinal obstruction''. Even in the Rahul case which was sensationalised by the media could not be confirmed. He was brought to us with various complications. From our hospital he was taken away by relatives to Doaba Hospital," he said.
Ramesh lived in a dera in Santokhpura. His death was reported to the media by the councillor of Santokhpur area, Madhu Rana. That is from where the rumour spread that he had died of gastroenteritis. It is learnt that even the natural deaths in the city are being misquoted as gastroenteritis deaths.
All this started after the Bhargo Camp deaths.It is being said that relatives of the deceased in the poor areas are claiming compensation of Rs 50,000 announced by the Deputy Commissioner Ashok Gupta recently.
